Sandstone Building Stone

Sandstone is a sedimentary rock composed mainly of feldspar and quartz. Like sand itself, Sandstone comes in various hues and colours. It is a porous and soft stone, which makes it easy to work with and a very popular building material.

We offer a wide selection of colours in sandstone building stone. The colour of sandstone varies due to the geographical location from where it originates. The Mountcharles sandstone building stone is a brown stone (or some describe it as a gold stone) but walling stone is also available in Blue Centre, Blue/Grey and Pink.

Customers often choose to have a mixture of colours while using sandstone walling stone,   as the variation in colours blend into almost any surrounding area. The beauty of using sandstone as a building stone is that you can also have the architectural work down for your house or wall in sandstone. Whether it is window surrounds or wall capping.  

Brown Sandstone

 

Brown Sandstone is a Mountcharles Sandstone. It has a stunning mixture of neutral shades including cream, beige and golden browns.

Brown Sandstone walling stone can be purchased in two forms for walling stone. It is available in Random Rubble form and is sold by the pallet or bulk load (approximate coverage from 5 – 5.5 Sq. m. per pallet and 45 – 50 Sq. m. per truck load).
The alternative is Sandstone Machine Block and is available in bags or pallets (approximate coverage of 3 – 3.5 Sq. m. per bag and 6 – 7 Sq. m. per pallet).

Blue Centre Sandstone

 

Blue Centre Sandstone building stone is unique to our Mountcharles Quarries. It derives its name from its beautiful mixture of the subtle colour tones of blue and golden brown.

 Blue Grey Sanstone

  

Blue Grey Sandstone has a wonderful appearance, predominately consisting of grey and blue shades with a hint of brown.

This material can be purchased in two forms: Random Rubble or Machine Block. Random Rubble is hand picked stone and is available in pallets or bulk loads, (approximate coverage from 5 – 6 Sq. m. per pallet and 50 – 65 Sq. m. per truck load respectively).

The alternative is Machine Block. This material is machine split and is available in bags (approximate coverage of 3.5 – 4 Sq. m. per bag respectively).

Grey Sandstone

 

Grey Sandstone building stone is a mixture of grey tones with the occasional splash of brown; overall, this walling stone is quite consistent in colour. It is suited to both traditional and contemporary buildings.

This material is machine split and is available in bags, (approximate coverage of 3 – 3.5 Sq. m. per bag respectively).

Sawn bed sandstone is a gold stone and is cut on all 4 sides and has a uniformed look.  It is available in bags or pallets (approximate coverage 3 - 3.5 Sq. m. per bag and 6-7 Sq. m. per pallet).
