Tony McCormack from pavingexpert.com informed the sales team at McMonagle Stone on the basics of pavement design, construction and maintenance and cleaning of paving. 
Tony's father established a business in 1957. The company was originally created to supply skilled tradesmen and laborers to undertake footpaths, roads and sewer construction for Local Authorities and the house builders of NW England. Tony has worked in the construction industry with his father for most of his life. He specialised in paving, surfacing and drainage.
The business is no longer undertaking any construction work. Paving Expert now focuses on consultancy. And this is what brought Tony to Donegal to visit McMonagle Stone!
Tony informed us that problems with paving usually originate from the laying of the pavement. He explained that if paving is laid properly there should be no major problems down the line with that pavement. There are a lot of factors that contribute to successful laying of pavement. These factors include the bedding the pavement is set on, the way the mortar is used, the drainage of water, the geo textile used, the sand used and many other factors.
He also took us through the various ways of laying pavement. And the different looks you can achieve, just by laying pavement a certain way. You can make an area look larger or smaller by laying pavement in the correct way. i.e. by laying paving randomly you can make an area look much larger.
Tony explained the reason for algae growth on sandstone pavement and ways to eliminate it. He educated us on the various ways of maintaining pavement so it lasts for years and years, as stone should. Tony McCormacks visit was truly beneficial to all at McMonagle Stone.
